The Court of Appeal in Akure, Ondo State, has upheld the death sentence of Dr. Ramon Adedoyin, a hotel owner convicted for the murder of Timothy Adegoke, a former Master’s student at Obafemi Awolowo University. The court confirmed the Osun State High Court’s earlier ruling on Thursday, stating that Adedoyin’s appeal was dismissed, and that he was properly sentenced to death.

The judgment, reserved on October 29, 2024, also quashed previous orders, including the forfeiture of Hilton Hotel and the educational scholarship for Adegoke’s children that were to be paid by Adedoyin and others. Adegoke was found dead in November 2021 at Adedoyin’s Hilton Honours Hotel, where he had been staying.

On January 29, 2022, 37-year-old MBA student Timothy Adegoke was buried next to the house he built for his parents in the New Eruwa area of Eruwa, Oyo State, amidst mourning from family, friends, and supporters. His widow, Bolatito, was inconsolable at the graveside.

In March 2022, Afeez Olaniyan, the investigating officer in Adegoke’s case, revealed that several defendants involved in the incident had evacuated and abandoned his body in a bush. During the trial, Olaniyan testified that Adegoke’s corpse was wrapped in a duvet and transported in a Hilux van, driven by the hotel owner’s son, Roheem Adedoyin.

Dr. Waheed Oluogun, a consultant pathologist at Osun State University Teaching Hospital, determined that Adegoke died from severe hemorrhage due to traumatic injuries.
