Mrs. Beatrice Ekweremadu, wife of former Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu, has been released from prison in the UK after serving a five-year sentence. According to an anonymous source, she returned to Nigeria on Tuesday and is now in Abuja. Her family in the Mpu community of Aninri Local Government Area in Enugu State is reportedly celebrating her release.

Beatrice Ekweremadu, along with her husband Ike Ekweremadu and Obinna Obeta, was sentenced in 2023 by a UK court for their involvement in an organ trafficking scheme. Following her release from prison, the community of Mpu celebrated her return as a significant relief.

Mr. Benjamin Chijioke, President of Mpu Town Union Federated, expressed the community’s joy during the celebrations, which coincided with the town’s market day. He prayed for Ike Ekweremadu’s swift return and emphasized how their absence has greatly impacted the community.

Councillor Ogbuka Edwin also acknowledged the sense of loss felt by the community due to the couple’s absence and noted that their return felt like a public holiday. He reaffirmed the community’s commitment to praying for Ike’s safe return.
