Reverend Father Hyacinth Alia of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is victorious in the Benue State Gubernatorial Election.
In Makurdi, the state’s capital, the announcement of the result was made by the returning officer, Faruk Kuta, vice-chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Minna, of the Benue State Governorship Election on Monday at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) collation Centre.
Hyacinth got 473,933 votes leading Titus Uba of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that won 223,913 votes, was declared the winner. Coming third, is Herman Hembe of the Labour Party (LP) who scraped 41,881 votes.
Although, elections were rescheduled in Kwande LGA following a muddling issue with the ballot papers on Saturday. Alla gained 17 Local Governments out of the 23 Benue State and Uba won 4 LGAs, leaving one LGA to Hembe.
Kuta, declared Alia the winner conforming with the rules of the Electoral Act and the Guidelines of INEC owing to the fact that the law provides for a winner to be declared once the margin of the lead of the candidate surpasses the number of the registered voters or those who have collected their permanent voter’s cards (PVCs) in a Local Government Area.

Rev. Ff. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia was born on the 14th of May 1966 to the family of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Kastina Alia of the Tiv Tribe in Benue State. He is a Catholic Priest and Politician in Mbangur, Mbadede in Vandeikya Local Government Area of Benue State.
