U.S. immigration and border officials can now arrest migrants in “sensitive” locations, such as churches, schools, and hospitals, following the Trump administration’s reversal of previous policies that restricted such actions. Since 2011, these arrests had been prohibited in these designated areas.

The Biden administration later tightened restrictions on immigration enforcement, allowing law enforcement to operate in “sensitive” locations like schools and churches. The Department of Homeland Security stated that criminals would no longer be able to evade arrest in these areas, emphasizing trust in law enforcement’s judgment.

The new directive reinstates “expedited removal,” enabling ICE to quickly deport undocumented individuals who cannot prove two years of continuous residency. ICE agents are set to launch nationwide operations to apprehend and deport undocumented individuals, as confirmed by Tom Homan, Trump’s border czar. Homan indicated that operations will take place across the country without specifying locations, stating that ICE will enforce the law starting the next morning.
