Omoyele Sowore, the African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, has condemned Peter Obi for his visit to Afe Babalola, which he perceives as an attempt to seek assistance regarding the ongoing case against human rights activist and lawyer Dele Farotimi. Farotimi is currently facing charges of criminal defamation and cybercrime in both the Ekiti State Magistrates’ Court and the Federal High Court in Ado Ekiti.

Social activist Moses Paul reported that Peter Obi held a meeting with Afe Babalola at his office in Afe Babalola University, where they discussed important topics, notably the case involving activist and lawyer Dele Farotimi.

Mr. PeterObi traveled from Lagos to Ekiti State for significant engagements, meeting Aare Afe Babalola at Afe Babalola University to discuss key issues, including the situation of activist DeleFarotimi. He then visited Farotimi in prison to express solidarity. In response, Sowore criticized Obi on X for allegedly seeking forgiveness from Babalola for Farotimi.

A critic condemned those, including Peter Obi, who sought to negotiate with Chief Afe Babalola regarding the unjust detention of Dele Farotimi, arguing that it undermines the fight against judicial corruption. They likened Obi’s actions to forcing Rosa Parks to return to the back of the bus during the civil rights movement, emphasizing that the struggle for justice must continue.

Meanwhile, the Federal High Court in Ado Ekiti granted bail to Farotimi in a case related to alleged cybercrime brought by the Inspector General of Police.
