Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State reiterates his administration’s commitment to combating poverty. During the distribution of N50,000 grants to 5,200 women from all 44 local government areas, he emphasized the continuation of this empowerment program. He reminded attendees of the promises made during the 2023 campaign to support the community.

Governor Abba Yusuf emphasized the importance of empowering women to achieve self-reliance, support their families, and enhance the socio-economic development of society. He expressed gratitude for the success of a program launched in May 2024, which has improved the lives of over 41,600 vulnerable women by removing financial barriers to their economic participation.

The initiative provides monthly grants of N50,000 to 5,200 women, helping them start projects and acquire skills for greater independence. Yusuf highlighted the critical role of women’s empowerment in addressing social issues and noted that Kano State’s poverty rate exceeds the national average, underscoring the need for targeted policies to alleviate poverty among its citizens.

Governor Abba Yusuf emphasized that overcoming deep poverty requires more than just financial support; it involves equipping individuals with knowledge and skills to improve their circumstances. His administration is implementing various programs to enhance access to quality education, ensure food security, accelerate rural development, support urban renewal, and create job opportunities for youth and women, thereby reducing the burden of healthcare costs on low-income families.

He urged the women benefiting from the N50,000 grants to use the funds responsibly, clarifying that this aid is a gift from the government rather than a loan, with no repayment required. Yusuf expressed hope that by investing wisely, the recipients could elevate themselves out of poverty and potentially become employers in their communities. He assured them that the upcoming 2025 budget will include sufficient funding for social programs aimed at combating poverty.
