In the wake of a tragic stampede at a children’s funfair held at the Islamic High School in Bashorun, Ibadan, authorities have confirmed that 35 children have died, with six others suffering critical injuries. A statement from the Oyo State Police Command, delivered by spokesman Adewale Osifeso, revealed that several individuals associated with the event have been arrested. Among those detained are Naomi Silekunola, the wife of the Ooni of Ile-Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, her media partner Agidigbo FM, the school principal, and five additional individuals connected to the incident.

The police indicated that the event was arranged by the Wings Foundation in collaboration with Agidigbo FM, but lacked the required permissions and safety measures.

The police have initiated an investigation into the recent incident and are determined to hold those accountable. The Oyo State Police Command expressed condolences to the victims’ families and assured the public that proactive measures are being taken to avert similar occurrences in the future.
