Former Jigawa State Governor Alhaji Sule Lamido has urged President Bola Tinubu to settle the ₦45 billion debt owed to the late Chief MKO Abiola by the Nigerian government. Speaking at the launch of his book, “Being True To Myself,” in Abuja, Lamido emphasized the importance of resolving this outstanding debt, which was related to Abiola’s victory in the June 12, 1993, presidential election. He highlighted that Abiola was double punished—denied the presidency and owed this substantial sum—calling on the government to “close the chapter of June 12” and address this historical injustice.

During the event, Lamido addressed the Minister of Information, who represented President Tinubu, urging him to pass the message to the President to pay Abiola’s family the ₦45 billion owed by the government. He emphasized that settling this debt would finally close the chapter of June 12.

Lamido also expressed his gratitude to Allah, former President Obasanjo—whom he called his “Boss, Guide, Leader, and Inspiration”—and others who contributed to the success of the event. He praised Obasanjo’s role and presence at the launch, praying for his health and well-being.

Lamido expressed gratitude to General Abdulsalami Abubakar for his honesty and support to the nation and to the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, for promoting religious harmony and attending the event despite his busy schedule.

He also praised Dr. Iyorchia Ayu as a longtime friend who contributed to reviewing his book. Additionally, Lamido commended the Editorial Team, Organising Committee, and Media Subcommittee for their dedication, patience, and efforts in ensuring the event’s success and generating nationwide interest in his book, “Being True To Myself.”
