Pop icon Madonna has renewed her criticism of President Donald Trump after he referred to himself as “the King” in a social media post. Trump made the declaration, “LONG LIVE THE KING,” while announcing that he had halted a proposed congestion charge for cars entering Manhattan. The White House later shared Trump’s post, featuring an image of him wearing a diamond-studded crown.
Madonna, known as “The Queen of Pop,” expressed her discontent with President Trump after he referred to himself as “Our King.” She remarked on the X platform, “I thought this country was built by Europeans, escaping the rule of a King, to establish a New World governed by the people. If this is a joke, I’m not laughing.” At 66, the singer has been an outspoken critic of Trump, opposing his administration’s attacks on LGBTQ rights and participating in protests after his inauguration.
Trump has often been criticized for his royal demeanor, such as claiming he was “saved by God to make America great again” following an assassination attempt. Recently, he campaigned against New York’s congestion charge—the first of its kind in the U.S.—which the Department of Transportation directed state officials to halt. In response, Democratic Governor Kathy Hochul announced that legal action is being taken to contest the federal order.
Trump declared on his Truth Social platform that “CONGESTION PRICING IS DEAD. Manhattan, and all of New York, is SAVED. LONG LIVE THE KING!” celebrating the halt of a proposed congestion charge in New York.
