Kogi State Governor Usman Ododo has emphasized the need for inter-agency collaboration to enhance safety on waterways following a tragic boat accident that resulted in the deaths of several Kogi indigenes. In a statement from his Special Adviser on Media, Ismail Isah, Ododo expressed his sorrow, particularly noting that many victims were women, petty traders, and artisans who contributed to the local economy. He highlighted his concern regarding the risks associated with the waterway connecting Kogi and Niger State.
He noted that the waterway connecting Kogi and Niger states has become increasingly hazardous due to frequent boat accidents. He urged the relevant authorities to implement safety measures to mitigate the risks associated with water transportation in the country. Ododo expressed appreciation for the National Inland Waterways Authority’s work in the search and rescue efforts.
Ododo emphasized the need for collaborative efforts among agencies to prevent waterway accidents and improve emergency response management.
