Mrs. Bukola Agbakaizu, a female broadcast journalist at Ogun State Television (OGTV) in Abeokuta, collapsed and died Monday while preparing for her afternoon shift. Her death was confirmed by Mr. Bunmi Adigun, Secretary of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Ogun State.

Bukola Agbakaizu, 52, a dedicated OGTV staff and former Vice Chairman of its Chapel, collapsed while preparing for her shift and was pronounced dead at the Federal Medical Centre. She was also an ex-officio member of the Ogun State NUJ Council.

Her vibrant spirit and dedication to journalism will be deeply missed, leaving an irreplaceable void in our community. She is survived by her two children, her elderly mother, and many colleagues and friends who mourn her loss.

The Ogun State chapter of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) expressed shock and grief over her passing. In a condolence statement, Chairperson Sekinat Salam described Mrs. Agbakaizu as a consummate and dedicated OGTV employee, emphasizing that her death was a painful and hard-to-accept loss for the chapter.

The statement also highlighted that the 52-year-old mother of two will be greatly missed for her kindness, compassion, and passion for journalism. Ogun NAWOJ described her passing as a shock, noting that her experience and leadership qualities were greatly needed by the association. As a committed member of NUJ Ogun State Council and NAWOJ Ogun State chapter, she will be fondly remembered for her dedication, love, and passion for the profession, which she cherished deeply.

Although she departed at the age of 52, her unwavering devotion to God and commitment to serving others will remain in our memories for many years to come. We pray that her soul finds eternal peace in the Lord, and that her family continues to be under God’s protection. Rest in peace, our esteemed sister in the profession, the true Amazon of journalism.
