Dr. Olusola Akinbode, Chairman of Yewa North Local Government Area in Ogun State, has formed a Conflict Resolution Committee aimed at finding a lasting solution to the ongoing herders-farmers conflicts in the region. He announced this during a peace meeting in Ayetoro, which included representatives from farming and Fulani communities, local leaders, and security agencies, emphasizing that fostering peaceful coexistence is one of his main priorities.
During the recent peace meeting, the council chairman emphasized the importance of dialogue among stakeholders and expressed gratitude to community leaders, security agencies, and others who participated. He explained that the newly formed Conflict Resolution Committee aims to identify both the immediate and underlying causes of the herders-farmers conflicts and develop appropriate solutions. The committee will be led by Alhaji Lukumon Akinyemi, with members including a traditional ruler, security representatives, and representatives from both the Fulani and farmers.
Pastor Olusola Akindele, Secretary of Atokun Cattle Market, thanked Governor Dapo Abiodun for establishing the state-level Conflict Resolution Committee and for initiatives promoting peaceful coexistence. Meanwhile, Alhaji Usman Ibrahim, Seriki Fulani of Ayetoro, praised the local government’s efforts in this peace initiative, calling for continued justice and fairness in resolving the ongoing clashes between farmers and herders.
