A former House of Representatives member and PDP member, Tajudeen Yusuf, blames Alhaji Atiku Abubakar for the party’s 2023 presidential election loss.

Yusuf warns that if PDP doesn’t learn from past mistakes, they may repeat similar failures in future elections.

Tajudeen Yusuf attributes the PDP’s loss in the 2023 election to the arrogance of its presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar. He believes that ongoing internal conflicts stem from party members vying for positions and power in anticipation of the 2027 general elections. Yusuf expressed that many members are overly ambitious, focusing more on personal ambitions than on effectively opposing the current government.

He criticized the party for not fulfilling its role as a constructive opposition and said that the violence during a recent Board of Trustees meeting is a reflection of the struggle for control within the party. Furthermore, Yusuf acknowledged the failure of the PDP’s crisis resolution mechanisms, labeling the meeting’s violence as indicative of leadership shortcomings.
