The Kogi State Police Command has initiated an investigation into the attack on the family home of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan in Obeiba-Ihima. According to a statement from Police Public Relations Officer SP William Aya, the inquiry follows reports that a group of three armed individuals attacked the senator’s residence, breaking windows in the process.
The incident occurred late at night on April 16, 2025, and was reported by Yakubu Ovanja, an aide to the senator. Upon receiving the distress call, the Divisional Police Officer dispatched officers to assess the situation. They encountered a resident named Michael Akpoti, who explained that he had alerted the authorities when the attackers attempted to break in.
The Commissioner of Police has instructed the Deputy Commissioner in charge of the Criminal Investigation Department to undertake a thorough investigation to identify and apprehend those responsible for the attack. The motive behind this assault remains unclear, although aides of Senator Natasha have pointed fingers at Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
Israel Arogbonlo, Chief Press Secretary to Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, stated on Thursday that the senator was the intended target of an attack on her family home in Obeiba-Ihima on April 15. Armed men vandalized windows at her grandfather’s house, mistakenly believing she was present. Fortunately, security forces responded quickly and drove off the attackers.
Arogbonlo condemned the assault as a calculated act likely linked to Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s outspoken criticism of Senate President Godswill Akpabio, whom she has accused of sexual harassment. He called on the Inspector General of Police to restore her security detail immediately.
In her statement regarding the incident, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan explained that her brother had brought contractors to their hometown for project inspections. The unknown assailants attacked her family home under the assumption that she was visiting. Thanks to a quick response from the civil defense team and local community members, the attackers were deterred, and a report was filed with the police, with no injuries reported.
