Fresh attacks on Tuesday night in the Daffo and Kwatas communities of Bokkos Local Government Area in Plateau State have resulted in the deaths of at least seven individuals, according to local sources. Community members had been appealing for assistance on social media to fend off attackers who were reported to be in the vicinity.
The Media Officer of Operation Safe Haven, Major Samson Zhakom, stated that he was waiting for further details before commenting. Meanwhile, the Bokkos Cultural Development Council (BCDC) Vanguard confirmed that the area has been experiencing ongoing attacks since May 2024.
BCDC Chairman Farmasum Fuddang expressed deep sadness over the resurgence of violence targeting ethnic minorities, highlighting that despite peace agreements with the Nigerian military, the community has suffered at least 30 murders and significant crop destruction in recent months. He noted that almost ten community members have died due to the recent assaults, including the simultaneous attacks in Daffo and Kwatas on September 3, which occurred after a week of isolated incidents that claimed 16 lives.
The attack in Daffo, which began around 7 p.m., targeted peaceful residents near a military base, while similar strikes in Kwatas and Ambul-Barkish resulted in additional fatalities.
