According to a statement issued on Thursday by Capt. Olubodunde Oni, Acting Assistant Director Army Public Relations in Jalingo, troops of 6 Brigade, Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have successfully foiled a planned banditry attack in Taraba and apprehended two suspects, who were found in possession of AK 47 rifles. The operation was carried out as a result of a coordinated effort based on credible intelligence.
On December 11, 2024, in response to actionable intelligence, troops swiftly mounted a series of proactive operations, including aggressive patrols, ambushes, and covert operations, to preempt the planned banditry attack. The coordinated efforts led to the capture of two suspected terrorists, identified as Terry Waapara and Tobaya Tekura, in Adu village. The individuals were intercepted while attempting to infiltrate the Chachanji market to carry out their alleged plan, which included kidnapping and other criminal activities.
The operation yielded significant results, with troops recovering 2 AK-47 rifles, 2 AK-47 magazines, and 26 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition. The suspects are currently in custody and undergoing further investigation to uncover more details about their network and activities.
According to the statement, Brigadier General Kingsley Uwa, Commander of 6 Brigade, praised the troops for their exemplary vigilance, professionalism, and swift response, which contributed significantly to the operation’s success. The Commander also reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s unwavering commitment to combating terrorism, banditry, and other forms of criminality in Taraba State. He expressed his gratitude to law-abiding citizens for their continued support and cooperation in providing timely and credible intelligence.
