President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his commitment to advancing Nigeria’s development and preserving national unity, emphasizing that he will not be distracted from doing what is right for the country.

He conveyed this message through the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, during the launch of former Jigawa State Governor and elder statesman Alhaji Sule Lamido’s autobiography, “Being True to Myself,” held at the NAF Conference Centre in Abuja.

Tinubu, who was the Grand Guest, praised Lamido’s contribution to Nigeria’s political literature and democratic discourse. Idris highlighted Lamido’s courage, consistency, and principled stance, noting that despite being an opposition figure and critic of Tinubu’s government, Lamido remains a vital part of Nigeria’s political landscape.

Tinubu, represented by the Minister, reaffirmed his commitment to political inclusivity, emphasizing that opposition is a healthy contest of ideas rather than enmity. He stated that all citizens, regardless of party, have a role in national discourse.

The Minister praised Lamido’s decade-long autobiography as a resilient effort that helps preserve Nigeria’s political history and encouraged other political figures to document their experiences for future generations. Reflecting on the book’s title, “Being True to Myself,” Idris highlighted Lamido’s reputation as a straightforward and principled politician and compared Tinubu’s leadership qualities to Lamido’s, noting that Tinubu remains true to Nigeria’s core values of truth, justice, peace, and prosperity.

Idris also emphasized Tinubu’s dedication to Nigeria’s growth and macroeconomic stability, acknowledging that although challenges remain, Tinubu has shown remarkable vision and courage to guide the country toward development. Regarding national security, he assured that Tinubu is committed to protecting citizens and maintaining territorial integrity, while urging appreciation for the sacrifices made by the Nigerian military in maintaining security nationwide.

The Minister emphasized the administration’s efforts to boost national revenue through new Tax Bills designed to promote development without placing undue burdens on citizens. He also reaffirmed President Tinubu’s openness to constructive criticism, emphasizing that the President remains focused on doing what is right for Nigeria. The well-attended event reinforced Tinubu’s commitment to political inclusivity, national progress, and democratic principles.
