President Bola Tinubu has expressed his deepest condolences to the family, friends, and associates of Prince Doyin Okupe, a distinguished medical doctor, politician, and strategist influential in Nigeria’s political scene. A notable figure from Iperu-Remo in Ogun State, Okupe previously served as Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs to President Goodluck Jonathan and Special Assistant on Media to President Olusegun Obasanjo. Throughout his 30-year political career, he held significant roles, including National Publicity Secretary of the National Republican Convention (NRC), and was actively involved with the United Nigeria Congress Party (UNCP), the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and the Accord Party, where he served as national leader.

Most recently, Doyin Okupe served as the Director-General of the Labour Party’s Presidential Campaign for the 2023 election. He was also a co-founder of the Royal Cross Medical Centre in Lagos and the publisher of Life Mirror, a health-focused newspaper. President Bola Tinubu praised Okupe as a courageous advocate for national development, expressing sorrow over his passing, especially given his wealth of experience. He extended condolences to the Ogun State government and the Iperu-Remo community, highlighting the significant loss Okupe’s death represents.

Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun echoed Tinubu’s sentiments, calling Okupe’s death a personal loss. In a statement, Abiodun noted that Okupe’s passing followed closely after the death of the Alaperu of Iperu Remo, Oba Adeleke Idowu-Basibo. He commended Okupe for his dedication to Nigeria and described him as a patriotic statesman.Other political figures, including Labour Party leader Peter Obi, also mourned Okupe, acknowledging his impactful contributions to both Nigeria’s political and medical fields.
