Edo Governor Monday Okpebholo announced on Thursday that the federal and state governments have formed a fact-finding committee to investigate the recent killings of hunters in Uromi. He made this announcement during a visit from a delegation from Kano State, led by Deputy Governor Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo. Okpebholo noted President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s strong disapproval of the incident and his commitment to ensuring the safety of citizens. He emphasized that this event has heightened awareness of national issues, prompting a readiness to improve the lives of all residents.

The president is committed to thoroughly investigating the recent Uromi killings, seeking a lasting solution and justice for the victims. He, along with the Edo government, has created a committee to explore the root causes of the incident. Governor Monday Okpebholo indicated that the findings from this committee will inform future actions, and the public will be updated on its progress.

Okpebholo emphasized that Edo is home to peace-loving individuals who welcome all residents and have a history of strong economic collaboration with Kano State.

Deputy Governor Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo expressed appreciation for Okpebholo’s previous visit to Kano and his support during the crisis. During his remarks, Gwarzo shared that Kano has established a committee to gather information on the victims and is submitting its final report. He stressed the need for a transparent process to ensure justice for the families of the sixteen victims, who hailed from five local government areas in Kano.

Governor Okpebholo and the Kano delegation later traveled to Uromi to meet with members of the Hausa community impacted by the incident.
